Better Knowledge: In response to our mailing about turkey consumption, author and member Jennifer Roberts offers: I’d like to make a suggestion about yesterday’s “Sad Facts” photo and caption. While raising awareness about the horrors of factory farming is important, I feel that it’s even more important to offer positive alternatives. For example, the turkey photo/caption could have been balanced with a link to some vegan holiday recipes (such as www.vegcooking.com/f_holiday_cooking.asp), a link to Farm Sanctuary’s website (a great group that advocates for better treatment of factory farm animals; www.farmsanctuary.org) and/or a link to Local Harvest where people can find sources for locally grown organic food and more humanely raised turkeys (www.localharvest.org) |

Graduate Student Seeking Research Information I am a graduate student at Virginia Commonwealth University working on my MFA in Interior Environments. I have a special interest in researching and gaining experience in the connection of humanitarian needs with architects and designers. Specifically I am researching the psychological effects of the humanitarian projects that are happening. I want to know how a built environment, years after the fact, has effected the psychological quality of life of those individuals receiving aid. I am struggling to find any research or evaluations touching on this aspect of aid. Are you aware of any possible resources available? I would appreciate any help you could provide in this search. Thank you so much!
